Medical Transcription Employment
Are you curious about medical transcription employment? Are you wondering what exactly it is and how to get into it?
Medical transcription has become a very large career opportunity and is continuing to grow every year. The reason for this is that medical transcription has a lot of flexibility. You do not need to work 9-5, you can work part time, full time, or even for 2-3 companies and work a lot of overtime. You can also work from home with a company, or freelance and have your own business.
Medical transcription employment is considered part of the health care industry because it directly ties into the needs of health care. As a medical transcriptionist you will need a decent knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and general medical terminology and spelling. If you have a high aptitude for these things then you wil be highly valued in the field. The reason for this is that your job is to type a report for each and every visit the doctor has, whether it be a 5 minute visit with someone who has a cough or a 20 minute ultrasound, there has to be a record of it and you’re the one to make it.
If you are on the fence about medical transcription employment then consider this. Employment in the health care industry is booming, everyone knows this. However, they estimate jobs for medical transcriptionist will increase 23% by 2012. That is one of the largest growths of any profession out there.
The earnings for a medical transcriptionist will vary depending on experience but as a beginner without any medical background you can expect about 12-15/hour starting. If you have a medical background, such as an LPN, retired nurse or so forth, then you can usually average 14-18/hour. If you choose to work at home then your pay will also depend on how quickly you can type.
If you are looking to get started with medical transcription then the best thing to do is sign up at a few job sites, which you can find a list in my job guide and search for jobs in your area. Look at the requirements for the job, some will require a certificate but others will do on the job training. If most require a certificate then call a few and ask where a good place to get one is. There are alot of scams out there so verify with the BBB before paying anyone to teach you.
